The wind will gradually back off this afternoon and become more easterly, high temp in Lubbock near 71 beneath a mainly sunny sky. It'll be cooler to the northeast, here is the forecast map for today:   We'll see a few more clouds tomorrow, high temp again in the lower 70s. The wind will begin from the NE light in the morning, though it should kick up more by the afternoon.ACTIVE PATTERN: We see upper-level disturbances sliding across our region every few days. The first one was what kicked up all the dust and wind last night. While we see these passing systems every few days there isn't a convincing chance for rain from any of them.There could be some drizzle or light rain Wednesday into Thursday, but again, the chance is low. It'll be breezy in the low 60s Wednesday, then rebounding right up to near 80 and windy on Thursday.NEXT WEEKEND: Models are showing a change is on the way. The degree of change is highly uncertain. The American GFS, European and Canadian models all show a large trough or cut-off low developing in the middle of the nation, diving south. Just where it moves will determine how much colder it gets and whether any rain will develop here.Because there is such a spread in guidance solutions there is little confidence in what the weekend will hold. The storm system that pushed a cold front through here yesterday is now over the Midwest. We only made it to 50 yesterday afternoon, it'll be warmer than that every day this week.It's mostly in the 20s this morning, wind chill close to 20. We'll make the mid 60s this afternoon beneath a mainly sunny sky, wind SW 10-16mph. Sunset 7:52 p.m. in Lubbock. Here are the projected highs for the area:   THIS WEEK: There will be a large trough over the Great Lakes and Midwest with colder air. Some models the past few days have shown that trough pushing a front through our area tomorrow. A new trend in the models now is that almost all of them show the front moving across the area tomorrow, so we've knocked the high temp down to around 63. A north breeze 12-22mph will make it feel cooler than that.Upper-level ridging builds in over the western United States and we'll see sunny afternoons with the high in the 70s rest of this week. We should be in the upper 70s to low 80s by the weekend. The wind will be a gusty from the southwest each afternoon late this week. No signs of rain for this week. The jet stream should get a little more active for the Plains states next week, but for this week it keeps all the active weather far away.   I'm looking forward to a training session at the National Weather Service Lubbock office today. They're providing training on dual-polarization radar. Lubbock's radar will have this upgrade soon.
