This morning, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an officially licensed Texas Tech Fox Bobblehead. The bobblehead commemorates the 10-year anniversary of when a wily fox stole the spotlight after running loose on the field during the Texas Tech football team’s 20-10 victory over in-state rival TCU on September 12th, 2013, at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock, Texas. The Texas Tech Fox Bobblehead will join the Texas Tech Rally Possum Bobblehead that the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum released last Thursday. Both bobbleheads are being produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official licensee of Texas Tech.

Standing on a replica of the turf at Jones AT&T Stadium, the Texas Tech Fox is positioned next to a football bearing the Texas Tech logo. The front of the red and black base reads “TEXAS TECH FOX” while the side reads “TEXAS TECH” and the back has the date of the game. Each bobblehead is individually numbered to 2,013 and they are only available through the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum’s Online Store. The bobbleheads, which are expected to ship in February, are $35 each plus a flat-rate shipping charge of $8 per order.

Recently, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum also unveiled a limited-edition bobblehead of the Texas Tech Rally Possum, who went viral after running on the football field during Texas Tech’s 35-28 victory over TCU in another Thursday night wild animal appearance on November 2nd in Lubbock. After the Rally Possum stormed on the field, Texas Tech reversed the team’s two game losing streak by beating TCU 35-28 that evening and then went on to defeat #16 Kansas at Lawrence last Saturday by a score of 16-13. Texas Tech will host UCF this Saturday, November 18th as it looks to go 3-0 since the Rally Possum game.

The 56th meeting between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the 24th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs during the 2013 football season will be remembered for Texas Tech’s 20-10 upset victory – and an appearance by a fox who somehow made it onto the sideline early in the third quarter with Texas Tech holding a 10-0 lead. ESPN cameras caught the carnivorous mammal scampering back and forth behind the players on the TCU sideline alongside the brick wall at Jones AT&T Stadium before being corralled and taken off the field. For a while, the fox evaded capture, as Texas Tech mascot Raider Red even got into the act in trying to capture the surprise visitor. The capture took place just as TCU missed a critical field goal, leading conspiracy theorists, and likely TCU fans, to question how the fox got inside the home team’s stadium to begin with.

In the rivalry game known as the “West Texas Championship,” Texas Tech lost the next four meetings to TCU played in Lubbock. The streak was snapped on November 2nd when the Rally Possum made many fans fondly recall the appearance of the fox 10 years earlier. With their most recent victory, the Red Raiders claimed the Saddle Trophy in the rivalry game, which was first played in 1926. Texas Tech holds a 33-30-3 edge in the tightly contested series.

“We are excited to release this unique bobblehead to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Texas Tech Fox who made a memorable appearance during the football team’s victory over TCU in the 2013 West Texas Championship,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “As soon as we unveiled the Rally Possum Bobblehead last week, fans asked for a bobblehead of the fox, and we know many Texas Tech fans will want to add this one to their collection.”
