LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire announced Friday five additions to the football roster who joined the Red Raiders at the start of the spring semester.

The list of new mid-year enrollees includes super senior defensive lineman James Hansen, junior wide receiver Price Morgan, sophomore tight end Jason Llewellyn, freshman place kicker Ethan Ballentine and redshirt freshman defensive back Javeon Wilcox. In total, Texas Tech welcomed 29 mid-year enrollees in the past week between its high school class (13) and transfers (16).

Hansen will utilize his final year of eligibility with the Red Raiders after previously playing the past two seasons at Nevada. Hansen started in 18 games the past two seasons for the Wolfpack, totaling 37 tackles, including 7.5 for a loss and 2.0 sacks. He previously began his career at Riverside Community College before signing with Utah State and eventually Nevada.

Morgan arrives from Central Missouri where he played in 22 games the past two seasons, catching 57 passes for 538 yards and six touchdowns. A native of Round Rock, Texas, Morgan compiled majority of his yardage this past season with 50 catches for 487 yards and six scores for a Mules program that ranked in the top 10 of the Division II ranks. He was an honorable mention All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) selection.

Llewellyn returns to the Lone Star State following two seasons at the University of Oklahoma where he appeared in 13 games for the Sooners, primarily on special teams. Llewellyn, who will have three seasons of eligibility remaining with the Red Raiders, signed with Oklahoma out of Aledo High School where he was rated a four-star prospect after helping push the Bearcats to the Class 5A Division II state title his junior year in 2020.

Ballentine, a native of Birdville in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, will add depth to Texas Tech’s specialist room as a former member of the Chris Sailer Kicking Top-12 list, one of the most-prestigious groups for high school kickers.

Wilcox, meanwhile, will have four years of eligibility with the Red Raiders after redshirting the 2023 season at TCU. Wilcox, a native of Temple and Lake Belton High School, signed with the Horned Frogs as a four-star prospect and one of the top defensive backs in the state of Texas for the 2023 class. He was a high school teammate of fellow Texas Tech newcomer and Lake Belton graduate Micah Hudson.

The five new additions compliment an already highly ranked high school signing class from December that ranked in the top 25 of college football. McGuire and his staff also inked a transfer class that currently ranks in the top-10 nationally by multiple publications.
