The Red Raiders welcomed the Duke Blue Devils to the hub city for game 1 of the Lubbock Super Regional. Duke preyed on the Red Raiders hospitality with 1 run off of Dylan Dusek in 1 and 2/3rds. Ryan Shetter came in for 4 2/3rds giving up 2 runs in the top of the 5th.
Duke was making productive outs, moving runners over and scoring them. Texas Tech struggled with runners in scoring position only 1 of 8 through 6. Duke but was able to make key hits batting .333 with RISP.
Red Raiders battled back after spotting Duke 3 runs with 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to tie it up at 3.
Jose Quesada came in for 2/3rds of an inning struggling with two walks and an earned run to give Duke a 4-3 lead.
But Zach Rheams, have yourself a post-season, sent the first pitch he saw like a rocket out of a cannon to tie it up.
We kept hearing about the vaunted Duke bullpen and how bad their starting pitchers were. but DeCaster gave up the same number of earned runs as Stallings (2).
Farhat singled in the 8th and Fulford bunted. Duke tried to get the out at second but Max Miller was drawn off the bag by the throw from the Duke catcher.
Farhat scored on a Gabe Holt single to right to make it 5-4 Red Raiders. Fulford tried to make it to third but failed. Klein doubles, Holt as an insurance run and the Red Raiders take a 6-4 lead to the 9th.
Duke had 2 on with 1 out but grounded into a double play to end the game. Red Raiders win 6-4 and will play game 2 Sunday at 3 P.M.
Team didn’t panic, they did whatever it took to win as good teams do.
