When people walk around with metal detectors, they’re lucky to find a coin or small piece of jewelry here and there.

Well, one guy in Australia hit the metal detector jackpot when he located – and dug up – a gold nugget worth $69,000.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was walking around with his detector in the gold fields near Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.

The machine beeped. He moved about 18 inches of dirt from the surface. And, out popped a piece of gold about the size of a fist.

The man was, of course, extremely lucky to find the gold as most nuggets that size are found by prospectors using heavy machinery.
