Red Raiders tied for 10th after opening day at Medinah

Texas Tech was one of six teams to post an under-par score in the second round of the Illini Women’s Invitational on Monday, helping the Red Raiders climb into a tie for 10th after 36 holes at Medinah Country Club. The Red Raiders carded a 2-under 286 in the afternoon session, improving by nine shots from their opening-round 7-over 295, which left them tied for 13th.

Texas Tech sits at 5-over 581 through 36 holes, tied with Charleston and Iowa in the 15-team field. Missouri, Illinois and Indiana share the team lead at 16-under 560.

Angel Yin, who is competing as an individual as the sixth Red Raider on the trip, leads Texas Tech, sitting tied for 23rd at 1-under 143 (71-72). Yin opened with a 1-under 71 before adding an even-par 72 in the second round.

Parat Sukanant made one of the biggest moves for Texas Tech on Monday, following an opening-round 5-over 77 with a 4-under 68 in the second round. Sukanant’s second-round score was the lowest by a Red Raider on the day and matched her season low, which she previously recorded at The Bruzzy, the Red Raiders’ season-opening tournament. The freshman’s 68 moved her into a tie for 36th at 1-over 145.

Maja Ambroziak and Cameron Freund are tied for 45th at 2-over 146. Ambroziak carded a 2-over 74 in the opening round and an even-par 72 in the second, while Freund opened with an even-par 72 before posting a 2-over 74.

Klara Hurtova improved by three shots from her opening round, carding an even-par 72 in the second round to sit tied for 52nd at 3-over 147. Tarini Bhoga rounds out the lineup tied for 63rd at 5-over 149 after rounds of 74-75.

The Red Raiders will conclude the tournament Tuesday with the third and final round at Medinah Country Club. The 15-team field will begin with a 9 a.m. CT shotgun start.
