Lubbock ISD Planning for 2027-2028 Academic Calendar

Lubbock ISD is getting ready for the 2027 through 2028 academic calendar through a survey one can take to help construct the calendar. The survey will close at midnight on Sunday, Nov. 8.
Texas Education Code (TEC) 25.081 states that school districts will provide at least 75,600 minutes of instruction, including intermissions and recess, for students. The groups developing the school calendar consider these priorities and factors to guide their planning:
-
Set the number of instructional days in each semester, taking into account state testing days
-
Provide 75,600 minutes for student instruction (minimum) with 171 days for students
-
Provide 187 days for staff days
-
Coordinate spring break with area school districts, universities and colleges, if possible
-
Construct a calendar that is educationally sound for the majority of our students
The calendar planning committee uses this feedback to make decisions on things like the start and end of the school year, dates for professional development, and student and staff holidays and breaks. Feedback from this survey is essential as we work to select a calendar that best meets the needs of all these groups.
