Chris Beard is 3-0 leading the Red Raiders in the challenge. The seventh annual event will consist of 10 games played on January 25, as every Big 12 member faces 10 programs from the SEC. This will mark the fifth consecutive year for all games to be played in one day. ESPN, EPSN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise the contests with ESPN’s College GameDay originating from one of the sites.

Big 12 teams are 35-25 (.583) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge after a 6-4 advantage in 2019.

Kentucky is coming off a trip to the NCAA Elite Eight for the 38th time in its program history. An eight-time national champion, the Wildcats went 30-7 last season with NCAA tournament victories over Abilene Christian, Wofford and Houston before falling to Auburn in the Elite Eight. KU was 15-3 in SEC play last season and fell to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament semifinals before its run in the national tournament. The Wildcats earned a 71-63 win over Kansas in last year’s Big 12/SEC Challenge at Rupp Arena in Kentucky and also have an 83-76 win over West Virginia in 2018 in Morgantown, West Virginia. Kansas topped Kentucky in the first two years of the challenge.

Texas Tech and Kentucky will be meeting for the fifth time, but the first since Dec. 17, 1994 in a neutral-court matchup in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Red Raiders are 0-4 all-time against the Wildcats after KU earned an 83-68 win in that 1994 matchup. The two programs met for the first time on Dec. 2, 1963 in Lexington, Kentucky before the Wildcats played in Lubbock for the first and only time on Dec. 22, 1965. Kentucky won 89-73 at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum and then again on Dec. 2, 1986 in Lexington in the series history.

The Red Raiders have won 47 straight non-conference home games coming into the season after the win over the Razorbacks to conclude last year’s non-conference home schedule. The Red Raiders are coming off historic season where they advanced to the NCAA National Championship Final and won their first Big 12 regular-season championship. With 31 victories, the program had its winningest season ever and is 34-2 at home in the past two seasons after going 17-1 at the USA for the second straight year.

Tech now has eight home games on its non-conference schedule at the United Supermarkets Arena, including the season opener against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 5, Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 9), Tennessee State (Nov. 21), LIU Brooklyn (Nov. 24), Southern Mississippi (Dec. 16), UT Rio Grande Valley (Dec. 21) and Cal State Bakersfield (Dec. 29).
