Carrie Jernigan was back-to-school shopping with her three kids and stopped in at a Payless shoe store.
While there, she learned that the store was closing for good, so she jokingly asked how much it would cost to buy all the shoes in the store — with the crazy idea of donating them to area students in need.
Well, it ended up not being that crazy of an idea. The district manager at Payless worked out a deal with Carrie and helped her bring almost 1,500 pairs of shoes home that very day.
Carrie plans to donate about 1,100 pairs to kids and local schools, with the remaining pairs going to adults in need — all just in time for the beginning of the new school year.
