Knights use another big inning to secure series
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech (21-10, 2-6) fell to UCF (16-14, 4-7) by a score of 9-12 on Friday night after a seven-run seventh inning by the Knights propelled them to the series win.
The Knights scored all seven runs with two outs and finished the game with 16 hits, the most allowed this season by Tech.
The Red Raiders had 16 hits of their own including three homers – two by Aubrey Barnhart – and had a big fifth inning, putting up four runs.
Freshman Mimi Blackledge pitched 1.2 solid innings, allowing just one run while striking out a batter.
Kennedy Crites had a perfect 3-for-3 outing at the plate including an RBI single in the fifth. Kailey Wyckoff had three hits and three RBIs while Raegan Jennings and Abbie Orrick each with two hits.
Arriana Villa launched her seventh homer of the season off the light pole in right field and added a single later in the game.
Tech had something going in the bottom of the seventh inning after they loaded the bases with no outs. Jennings poked a single into left field to score a run followed by a line drive into center off the bat of Wyckoff to make it a 9-12 game.
UCF’s pitching stepped up as Sarah Willis struck out three straight batters to secure the win.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders will finish out the series tomorrow at 12 p.m.
