PROVO, Utah – The Red Raiders dropped their first Big 12 game of the season 8-10 to BYU on Saturday afternoon.

Texas Tech (19-5, 2-1) still secured the series win after with victories on Thursday and Friday. The Cougars (15-6, 1-2) offense showed up after being shutout in Friday’s game.

Aubrey Barnahrt led off the game with a solo shot to right field as Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. The Cougars responded promptly with three runs and then put up three runs again in the second to take a 6-2 lead.

Riley Love and Demi Elder each launched a two-run homer in the third to tie the game before scoring slow down for the next two innings.

Both BYU and Tech had chances to blow the game open in the fourth and fifth innings, but timely double-plays and good overall defense shut down any runs.

Finally, the Cougars were able to break through as they hit a grand-slam in the bottom of the sixth.

Kailey Wyckoff hit a solo shot in the top of the seventh and Barnhart drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in another run and make things interesting, but BYU was able to secure the last out leaving the game at 10-8.

UP NEXT- The Red Raiders will be back at Rocky Johnson Field on Tuesday as they play a doubleheader against New Mexico beginning at 12 p.m.
