ABILENE, Texas – The Texas Tech track and field team opened its 2024 outdoor season competing in the annual Wes Kittley Invite Friday afternoon at Elmer Gray Stadium. The Red Raider groups this weekend in Abilene consist of throwers, long distance, and pole vaulters.

 

Devin Roberson opened his season with a win in the discus throwing 58.95m (193-5). Meanwhile, Konner Wood finished in fifth with a throw of 49.61m (162-9).

 

On the women’s side, Zoe Burleson finished in first with a toss of 55.57m (182-4). McKenzie Davis was behind her in second at 51.00m (167-4), a new PB. Kyeese Hollands finished fifth at 42.26m (138-8).

 

Leah Howard won the women’s javelin throw with a toss of 46.50 (152-7) in her collegiate debut as Hollands placed second at 46.05m (151-1).

 

Notables

Riley Ries paced the women’s 1500m placing 9th at 5:00.48
Timothy Gregg led the men in the 1500m at 3:54.18
Isaac Hernandez and Lily Mather each won their 3000m steeplechase races. Hernandez went 9:20.66 as Mather clocked in at 10:49.24
The women’s 5k saw a 1-2-3-5 finish led by freshman Jenna Carter with a time of 17:40.05
