Robinson and Sanders Combine for Four-Hitter as No. 24 Tech Downs Baylor, 2-0

WACO, Texas – Behind a combined four-hitter from Kyle Robinson and Josh Sanders as well as an RBI double from Dylan Maxcey, the No. 24 ranked Tech Baseball team downed Baylor, 2-0, Friday night at Baylor Ballpark.

Staked to a 1-0 lead before he even toed the rubber, Robinson shoved Friday, firing a career-best seven innings. The righty scattered just three hits and punched out eight to lead Texas Tech (14-4, 2-2 Big 12) to its first Big 12 Friday night win of the season.

After Robinson departed in the bottom of the eighth, the Red Raiders turned to Sanders who fired a pair of scoreless innings to nail down his first save of the season.

In the victory, the Red Raiders got the key RBI double to left-center from Maxcey and a pair of hits from right fielder Austin Green to take the opening game of the weekend series over Baylor (5-12, 0-4 Big 12).

The Red Raiders got on the scoreboard in the top of the first when a pair of hit batters and a walk loaded the bases for Cade McGee. Mcgee was clipped by the first pitch he saw from Baylor starter Mason Marriott plating the first run of the night. Marriott allowed five hits and two runs in five innings pitched.

The early run was all Robinson needed as the Red Raider righty stranded a runner on second base with a pair of punchouts.

After a 1-2-3 second, Robinson used a slick 3-6-1 double play to fire his third scoreless inning of the night.

In the fourth, the Red Raiders doubled their lead when Maxcey plated Will Burns from first on a double that split the left and center fielders and into the gap.

On top by a pair, Robinson stranded two runners in another scoreless fourth, before retiring the Baylor side in order in a 1-2-3 fifth.

In the sixth, Robinson worked around a one-out double, ending the frame with a 10-pitch punchout.

With his pitch count hovering around 100, Robinson re-emerged for the seventh, where he became the first Red Raider to pitch into the seventh this season.

Coming back out for the inning, Robinson ended his outing with his eighth punchout of the night. In the end, the Virginia native fired seven scoreless scattering three hits. Robinson threw 114 pitches to earn his third win of the season.

In the eighth, Sanders ended the scoreless frame on the Red Raiders third ground-ball double play of the night.

Sanders returned for the ninth, working around a two-out base runner to nail down his save of the season.
